Dardanel became the main sponsor of the 9th Çanakkale Biennale for the third time.
The 9th Çanakkale Biennale, supported by Dardanel for the third time, began this year under the theme "Letting Time Go." The biennale, with Dardanel as the main sponsor, will be open for visitors until November 11.
The 9th edition of the Çanakkale Biennale, held with Dardanel’s main sponsorship, will offer a rich experience with over 50 artists’ exhibitions spread across 13 different venues, along with side events and collaborations. As one of the region’s largest investors, Dardanel, a local brand, has once again become the main sponsor of the biennale, which adds value to the city. During the opening, which was attended by Çanakkale Governor Prof. Dr. Ömer Toraman, Çanakkale Mayor Muharrem Erkek, and Dardanel’s Board Chairman Niyazi Önen, Dardanel Board Member Ayşe Önen Özoğuz emphasized that this year’s biennale, with its focus on youth, technology, tradition, and the future, is an important event in enriching Çanakkale’s economic and social life.
"As a responsible brand, what we contribute to our city is very important to Dardanel," said Ayşe Önen Özoğuz. She highlighted that the biennale not only enriches art and culture but also enhances Çanakkale’s economic and social life, positioning the city as a cultural center. She also stated that Dardanel, as a brand born in Çanakkale, is proud to celebrate its 40th anniversary in the city this year and to contribute to its development in economic, academic, cultural, and sports fields.
In addition, Dardanel has supported the local economy and society through initiatives such as providing jobs, collaborating with Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University in academics, and supporting local sports teams. "We are one of the largest employers in Çanakkale, impacting approximately 20,000 people, including our employees, their families, suppliers, and customers. We also contribute to the region’s sports development by supporting teams like Dardanel Women’s Football, Çanakkale Kepez Football Team, and Çanakkale Belediyespor Women’s Basketball and Volleyball teams," she added.
The biennale will be open for six weeks, welcoming the local public and art lovers until November 11, 2024. Exhibitions will take place in various venues across Çanakkale, including the Troy Museum, ASTİM Collective, MAHAL Art, Korfmann Library, Bordo Building, and other spaces in the city center. For the first time in its history, the biennale will extend its reach to areas outside the city center, such as Assos and Küçükkuyu. With a strong emphasis on inclusivity, interaction, and dialogue with young audiences, the biennale will once again become a focal point for contemporary art in Çanakkale, presenting a wide selection of works by international artists.
